There is a lot of family in every cake.
I'm Kimberly, and Morningstar began the way most good things do — in a home kitchen, baking for people I love. The recipes came from my mother and grandmother. The tools came from the rest of the family.
I still fold batter with my dad's whisk. The handle is worn smooth in the same place his hand used to sit. The caramel is cooked in my uncle's copper bowl, which heats slowly and evenly the way nothing modern seems to.
Everything is made in small batches, to order, by me. That is a limit and also the point: four pickups a day means every cake gets the attention it deserves, and nothing sits waiting on a shelf.
